Andre Cassa Mbungo hopes to end APR and Rayon Sports stronghold by leading Police FC to the 2014/15 league title for the first time.

Mbungo helped AS Kigali to win the 2013 Peace Cup and now he turns his focus on winning the league title with his new team, Police, a team that has come to close yet so far to winning the league twice in previous seasons.

However, the former Sec Academy coach, who is credited with nurturing the talents of several Amavubi players like Emery Bayisenge, Marcel Nzaora, Michel Rusheshangoga and Solomon Nisirikake, admits that next season’s league will be the most competitive in years.

He said: "Our league is getting more competitive every the other season and I think next season will be even more (competitive) compare to the previous ones, but my target is to finish at the top. I joined this club (Police FC) because I was convinced it has the potential to end APR and Rayon Sports’ dominance.”

"We have a good enough squad to compete for trophies though we are a bit inexperienced compared to them (Rayon and APR), that is why we need to give our best, work hard and then see how the season goes,” the 39-year-old added.

APR won the league last season for their record extending 14th title, while Rayon Sports has won it seven times since 1995. Atraco FC, now defunct, won it 2008. The new season is scheduled to start on September, 20. Last season Police FC finished on fourth position.
