APR to release 'redundant' players

League champions APR FC plans to release several players who are deemed redundant ahead of the new season, which starts on September 20.

According to the APR spokesperson George Gatete, the team is looking to bring in a couple of new signings and also release some players, who have not performed according to expectations.

"We are waiting for head coach (Ljubomir Petrović), who will make the final decision on the players he doesn’t want use next season,” Gatete said.

He did not mention the players the club plans to let go, but a Times Sport survey indicates that players likely to be affected may include; Suleiman Kakira, Ernest Sugira, Hamdan Bariyanga, Kasim Muhire,

Tumaine ‘Tity’Ntamuhanga, Hegman Ngomarikiza and Nova Bayama among others.

Some players, who the military side is reported to be interested in include; former Police goalie Alexis Ganza, striker Arafat Bahame (Etincelles). The club is also in talks with right winger Issa Bigirimana from Burundian league side Lydia Ludic Academic.

APR won the league last season with 64 points and will represent Rwanda in next year’s Africa Champions League as well as Cecafa Kagame Club Championship, while Rayon Sports, who finished in second position, will play in the Caf Confederation Cup.
