SC Kiyovu head coach Ali Bizimungu is keen to build his team around Rwandan players in the national league season scheduled to start on September 20.

Bizimungu, who took over a month ago after replacing Gilbert Yaounde Kanyankore, says his vision is to field young Rwandan players and reduce considerably the number of foreigners on the team.

"I want to give more local players a chance to play for Kiyovu in the coming season. This is one of the oldest football teams in the country; therefore, it needs to have a true identity of Rwanda.”

"Right now I’m working with about 100 young Rwandan players, who are willing to play for Kiyovu from which we shall pick 30 whom I will base on building my team for next season,” added the former AS Muhanga and Rayon Sports coach.

He noted that he will use some foreign players, whose contracts are still ongoing, but in the long run, the club wants to have a team full of only local players.

The Mumena-based outfit wants to follow in the footsteps of rivals APR, Police FC and AS Kigali, who have adopted the policy of using only local players.

Bizimungu has set himself a target of finishing in the top four in the forthcoming season. Last season the Green Baggies finished in fifth position with 41 points.
