Refer to the story, "Low girls’ intake in public universities raises concern” (The New Times, September 1). This is a serious concern that the Centre of Gender Studies should look into urgently if we need both males and females to equally access the opportunities that their country offers and to jointly form a solid foundation of for the next generation.  

There are, of course, reasons why this is happening yet women outnumber men in Rwanda. If those hindrances are put to the light, then the country will act accordingly.

But if Centre of Gender Studies had to wait for a university professor to raise this issue for them to conduct the survey, it’s in itself a big problem. They should have done this a long time ago without waiting for the problem to appear in the news.

We have many women organisations and activists around who could have done something about that. Why do we always have to wait for media houses to awaken us?
