Espoir, APR finish sixth at Zone V Championship

Espoir and APR finished sixth in the men and women’s categories respectively at this year’s Fiba/Africa Zone V-ball Club Championships taking place in Mombasa, Kenya.

Former champions Espoir Basketball Club were a walk over for home-side Cooperative Bank, losing the encounter 44-56. The hosts won the first three quarters 21-10, 10-9, 10-7 respectively before 2012 winners Espoir claimed a consolation final quarter 18-15.

APR women were thrashed 54-22 by Uganda Christian University in the classification game on Friday.

In today’s semi-finals, in men’s category, defending champions Urunani of Burundi face Uganda’s City Oilers, while hosts Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will be up against Tiger Head Power of Uganda.

In women’s competition, last year’s first runners-up United States International University (USIU) of Kenya take on hopefuls of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) whereas hosts KPA face Burundi’s Berco Stars.

Finals in both categories are scheduled for tomorrow at KPA Welfare Gymnasium.
