National Football League giants Rayon Sports have expressed interest in signing KCCA and Uganda Cranes striker Brian Omony, Times Sport has learnt.

The dreadlocked forward caught the eye of the seven-time Rwandan league champions at the recently concluded Cecafa Kagame Cup in Kigali where he finished as the tournament top scorer with five goals in six matches.

His current team Kampala City Council Authority FC finished fourth after losing to Rwanda’s Police FC in the third place playoff match.

"We talked with Omony and he expressed willingness to play for Rayon Sports but he is demanding a lot of money, which we can’t afford. He wants $50,000,” Rayon Sports president Theogene Ntampaka said in a phone interview on Thursday.

He added: "We are so much interested in him but we can’t get that kind of money, he impressed us during the recent Cecafa tournament.”

Asked how much the club is willing to pay for his services, Ntampaka noted, "Right now I can’t say what we are willing to offer him, but very soon we (executive committee) are going to sit to discuss what we can do to see him sign for Rayon Sports.”

Because of several injuries, Omony failed to deliver as expected for Tanzanian champions Azam FC, which led to his release after just one season. He signed a 6-month deal with Ugandan club KCCA in January.
