Editor,

This is timely given the gains the Rwandan education system has made over the years. It is clear enrolment rates for both boys and girls have increased by far compared to any other Sub-Saharan country.

The question now is to know whether children are learning, and whether what they are learning is relevant to Rwanda’s development agenda.

Learning is the major reason why parents send their children to school and it is the only measurable substance of ensuring quality basic education.

It is important that the new curriculum promotes transformative learning, while also ensuring that children are at the heart of the entire processes.

Kudos to Rwanda educationists for coming this far!
