Rwanda has a lot to learn from Singapore

Editor,

Refer to the story, "Mushikiwabo in Singapore for partnership meet” (The New Times, August 26). This meeting is timely; it comes when we as Rwandans have given ourselves an ambitious target of graduating from a poor to middle-income country by 2020.

Double-digit growth is the only way we shall get there; however, are we ready for this struggle? There is no middle ground; Rwanda has to pursue and emulate the Singaporean path.

Our point of departure is almost the same: humble beginning, small size and zeal to prosper; when it comes to accessibility we are land-linked and soon we shall be air-linked through Bugesera International Airport.

Our marginal advantage over Singapore is our natural resources, especially water and reliable climate that can stimulate "economic green growth”.
