The Minister for Local Government yesterday challenged  security personnel to serve with maximum discipline to maintain public trust.

Minister Francis Kaboneka was speaking at the Gishari Police Training School in Rwamagana, where the first intake of the recently created District Administrative Security Support Organ (Dasso) was passed out.

Dasso replaces the Local Defence Forces and will be in charge of security at the decentralised entities.

Over 2,000 officers, including 229 women drawn from all districts in the country, were passed out after a three-month training.

They are recruited by the district councils and will be supervised by the Ministry of Local Government.

Kaboneka emphasised that the government was committed to keeping law and order in society. He urged Dasso officers to be exemplary.

"You are expected to add value to the already well disciplined security set-up…you shouldn’t turn to be a problem instead of a solution. Protect people and public infrastructure selflessly,” he said.

The minister added that more Dasso members would be trained soon.

He, however, warned that the government would monitor their behaviour.

"Misbehaving will lead to expulsion and may be accompanied with heavy punishment.”
