Rwanda’s U-20 boys’ and girls’ handball team defeated Tanzania and Burundi respectively to take third position in the Zone V Challenge trophy in Uganda.

The boys’ team defeated Tanzania 29-28 thanks to 10 goals from Alex Nshimiyimana, while the girls beat Burundi 35-13 with team captain Aline Umugwaneza contributing 15 goals. Both matches were played on Thursday. Both teams contested for third place having lost in the semi-finals to Kenya and Uganda, respectively.

The boys’ team coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana said his team just didn’t have luck but praised his boys for their overall performance.

"We were just not lucky but both teams (boys and girls) did their best in the whole tournament. We can go back home and re-organise for future competitions,” he noted.

Hosts Uganda face Kenya in both the boys’ and girls’ finals today at Mukono University play grounds.
