Ugandan champions KCCA will play El Merreikh of Sudan in one of the semi-finals of the Cecafa Kagame Cup championship 2014 on Friday.

KCCA qualified to the next stage after thrashing Atlabara of South Sudan 3-1 in the last quarter-final match at Kigali Regional Stadium, while El Meriekh beat Azam 4-3 in the shootouts after playing to a barren draw in normal time.

The Ugandans scored their goals through Brian Majwega (third minute),  Brian Omony (33rd minute) and Hakim Sserukumba in the 74th minute.

Olivier Paul scored the consolation goal for Atlabara.

KCCA dominated for the better part of the game but Omony and former APR left back Habib Kavuma wasted many glaring opportunities.

Earlier on, El Merreikh had secured a place in the semifinals after Said Ayman Mohamed, Hussein Ali Gafer, Allan Wanga and Abdelatif converted their shootout penalties. Skipper Ahmed Elbasha missed his spot kick.

Former APR striker Lionel Saint Preux and Salum Kapombe Shomar missed for Azam, while Didier Kavumbagu, Edward Erasto Nyoni and Aggrey Ambrosi Moris were on the score sheet. On Friday, KCCA will meet El Meriekh in the first semi-final beforeRwandan rivals Police and APR face off in the second game of the day.

Both games will be played at Kigali Regional Stadium.
