Rayon Sports FC have released five players deemed surplus to requirements, according to club chairman Theogene Ntampaka.

The players are; defenders Iddi Nshimiyimana, James Mukubya and Jean Claude Rwak as well as strikers Samson Jakeshi and Jacques Cyubahiro.

"It’s part of our efforts to build a stronger squad that we have released players whose performance was below par last season. After assessing their performance, we found it fitting to release them so they can look for other clubs,” Ntampaka said on Friday. The Nyanza-based side finished in the second position last season behind APR FC and are now in the hunt for quality player to bolster their squad ahead of the new season which is scheduled to begin next month.

They are particularly looking to fill gaps that have been created after the departure of Burundi striker Cedric Amissi, who has since joined Mozambique’s Chibuto FC, as well as Rwanda internationals Djamar Mwiseneza, who moved over to archrivals APR, and Meddie Kagere, who has joined Albania’s top division side KF Tirana.

The Blues, who won the league title in the 2012/13 season, are currently competing in the Cecafa Kagame Club Championships and are through to the last eight alongside the other local sides in the tournament Police and APR.
