APR’s defeat to KCCA of Uganda last evening means that the Rwandan champions will meet with archrivals Rayon Sports in the Cecafa Kagame Cup quarterfinals.

That dumped any prospects of having three Rwandan teams in the semifinals of the annual regional club showpiece.

The military side lost 1-0, and finished second in Group B, with Rayon having already snatched the top spot in Group A.

The lone goal came from Steven Bengo on the 72nd minute, a wonderful free kick which gave goalie Olivier Kwizera no chance.

The win handed KCCA the top spot in their group and will now play South Sudan’s Atlabara, who finish third in Group A.

Rwanda’s other team in the competition Police FC will take on Atletico of Burundi, who qualified as best loser (from Group B).

Tanzanian giants Azam, who finished behind Rayon Sports, will meet El Meriekh of Sudan, who finished second in Group C.

The winner between Police and Atletico will face the winner between Rayon Sports and APR, while the winner between El Meriekh and Azam will play Atlabara and KCCA in the semifinals at Amahoro Stadium on Friday.
