During a night filled with laughter and unexpected moments, the monthly comedy series ‘Seka Live’ proved once again why it’s a must-attend event for comedy enthusiasts.
Hosted and organised by the charismatic Arthur Nkusi, the show, held at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (former Camp Kigali), kicked off at 7pm, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening.

The first performer to grace the stage was a talented young comedian known by his stage name, No Stress, who delivered a good performance that set the tone for the evening.
Next up was Ugandan sensation, Don Andre, who made his second appearance in Kigali. He shared a humorous take on the differences between performing in Uganda and Rwanda. His rendition of Element’s hit song ‘Fou de toi’ left the crowd in splits. Don Andre also poked fun at the unique way some born-again Christians pray before meals, adding a hilarious twist to the evening.
The third performer of the night was none other than Rwanda's very own comedy maestro, Herve Kimenyi. The audience eagerly welcomed him, knowing they were in for a treat. Kimenyi’s tales of his travels abroad, including a humorous anecdote about searching for money at an ATM in Burundi, had the crowd laughing uncontrollably. He shared his experiences of performing in Europe, highlighting the amusing mispronunciations of his name by European hosts.

Comedian Rusine, known for his distinctive drunkard-style comedy, delivered a memorable performance. He playfully questioned why he should speak English for free when he had to pay to learn it.
"I am trying to speak English because I know there are some people who don’t understand Kinyarwanda, however, I had to pay to learn it. Then why do you want me to speak it for free? So if you want me to continue speaking in English then you should pay,” he joked, leaving the audience in hysterics.
Ambassador Waba Konsomateri stood out with his unique observations and insights into life. His jokes resonated with the audience, particularly when he humorously discussed changing perceptions of men's behaviour over time.
"We couldn’t make noise when our dads were sleeping but now that we are dads, our wives send the kids to our bedroom, and the last thing you know they are all over you,” he joked.

The climax of the night was the highly anticipated appearance of Ugandan comedy sensation Anne Kansiime. Often referred to as the ‘Queen of African Comedy’, Kansiime not only had the audience in stitches with her jokes but also surprised them by showcasing her singing talent. Her humorous take on Rwanda's unpredictability and ability to surprise was also a hit.
"I fear Rwanda because I don’t get how you are doing all these things. It has got to be AI that is in your offices. Rwanda is so unpredictable in all ways, last time when Uganda came for the BAL in Kigali, Rwandans were cheering for them until they met in the semi-finals and they punished the Ugandan team and even sang their victory song.
"I would not even be surprised to see Rwanda saying they want to host the World Cup because in Rwanda everything is possible,” Kansiime joked.
Towards 10:40 pm, the show came to an end, leaving the audience with unforgettable memories and aching funny bones. This monthly comedy series continues to shine as a beacon of humour and entertainment in Kigali, bringing together talented comedians from across Africa for an unforgettable evening of laughter.
The ‘Seka Live’ comedy series which was initiated in March 2017, has had performances by many local and regional comedians like Teacher Mpamire, Herbert Mendo Ssegujja, Burundian Kigingi, Patrick Salvador, Loyiso Gola, Eric Omondi, Hillary Okello and Daniel Omara in its previous editions.
