Flavia Kayitesi. RIP

There was a deep sense of sorrow in the local movie industry as news about the death of actress Flavia Kayitesi broke out last Sunday. Kayitesi and four other people were shot by Theogene Munyembabazi on Saturday at Hunters night club in Gicumbi District, Northern Province.

According to Claude Cyuzuzo a cameraman and video editor at Glory Film Production who worked closely with Kayitesi, she was an active member of the local movie industry, especially with regard to Christian movies.

The deceased starred in movies such as Ntungaye kuko Imana yampinduye, Ubuhungiro bwanjye ni ku Mana, and Humura.

Claude Cyuzuzo said her death was a terrible loss to the movie industry. "We have lost a rising star in the Christian move industry. Kayitesi was social, kind, hard working and worked well with her colleagues. She was a talented young girl with a bright future in the movie industry.”

Ange Umurerwa, a friend and fellow actress, said it was too sad for the actress to die at a time when she was preparing for her wedding. "She meant a lot to me and in the film industry we have lost a role model that many people looked up to. She was preparing for her wedding and was very excited about it. Now that dream is gone too soon. She was very kind, always giving back to society, we will miss her a lot. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Kennedy Bizimana a local actor, said: "I was in shock after a friend informed me about her death. Flavia was a social, friendly and good person. Beyond that she was also a hard working person. She always shared ideas with us and had words of encouragement. She will always remain be in our hearts. May God rest her soul in peace and continue to be with her family.”

Martin Akimanimpaye, a sound engineer at Naomi graphics, said: "Flavia has been a friend, a great actor and hard working person who had a bright career ahead of her. She was social with people and a good listener. I believe she is resting in heaven now and we shall meet her one time. However, court of laws should deliver justice as soon as possible.”

Friends took to social media to write condolence messages on her Facebook page.

Vava Ubugeni wrote: Rest in Peace dear Flavia Kayitesi, I can’t believe you are gone forever. Your legacy will remain with us’.

Joy Murungi said: You’ve gone too soon sweetheart Flavia. May your soul rest in peace.

Larissa Uwera wrote: RIP Tessy. This is too hurting.

According to Claude Cyuzuzo, Kayitesi died at the time when she was working on a new movie, Imana nibwo buhungiro bwanjye” but it has since been put on hold as they try to figure how to proceed.

Police say the perpetrator killed Kayitesi and three others with a rifle he collected from a military camp after a fight at the nightspot which ensued when the suspect allegedly insisted that Kayitesi dances with him.
