U-19 cricket team wins first match in Zambia

RWANDA’S U-19 cricket team started with a victory over Mozambique on Saturday at this year’s Pepsi International Cricket Council-Africa U-19 Division Two tournament in Zambia.

The starlets, led by team captain Don de Dieu Mugisha, stunned their opponents in their first match of the tournament with a comfortable 188 runs victory.

Coach Edward Pearson’s team batted first to score 275 runs all out in 50 overs. In reply, Mozambique made 87 runs all out.

The Rwandan boys were due to battle it out with Tanzania on Sunday evening.

Today, they face Swaziland before locking horns with Sierra Leone on Thursday,  then hosts Zambia on Friday, and Ghana in the final game on Sunday.

In another match played on Saturday, hosts Zambia were shocked by Tanzania, losing by 84 runs.

The winner of the ten-day tournament will qualify for Division 1, which includes countries Uganda, Kenya, Namibia and Nigeria.
