BEIJING - The East African Community has honoured the extraordinary performance of Jamaica’s sprinter Usain Bolt at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Kenya’s Youth and Sports Minister Professor Hellen Sambili who was the guest of honour at the Olympic delegation reception hosted by the East African Community ambassadors on Friday at Vanda grand hall in Beijing hailed the Jamaican and urged East African athletes and administrators to learn some lessons from the sprinter’s performance.

"We have experts in the sports field who can help us to expand and develop sports in general. It’s never too late, we should now turn focus on London 2012,” Sambili told the big crowd of East African that attended the ceremony.

The Jamaican set new world records in both 100m and 200m as well the 100*4 relay at the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

The chairman of the East African Community ambassadors in China, Ben Rugangazi of Rwanda congratulated the regional delegations upon their participation in the Beijing Games but urged them to start preparations for London 2012 immediately.
