A proper adieu

There are two occasions that warrant a party no matter what; when someone coming back home after a few years away and when a person is leaving for the great yonder for a couple of years. It’s not that I’m always looking for a valid excuse to let my hair down, although I’ve been guilty of that offense a number of times, it’s that when a good friend is leaving your midst, you have an obligation to give that person one last ‘blast’ before they board the plane. Well, a very good friend of mine left last Sunday and it was heart breaking. Have you ever noticed that very good looking girls always hang with each other; it’s like they discriminate against the plainer looking Jane’s out there.

This good friend, lets call her Carine (sorry, I can’t reveal her name….she’d kill me or at least send me a vitriolic email), is quite a looker and so are her pals; in fact one member of the Ugly Munkiz says many good stories start with "that’s when I met one of Carine’s friends”.

It was sad to see Carine go; but it’s even sadder that I won’t get to hang with those yummy females until Carine comes back in TWO years…tragic.

But hey, I guess life’s like that…you gotta enjoy the moment. Anyway, I almost didn’t get to say adieu to Carine.

She had her get together on Saturday night and I was utterly pooped. I’d gone out every night since Thursday, sleeping in the wee hours of the morning and my body was rebelling.

It needed some sleep. But here is some advice; "if you want to sleep on a Saturday night, switch off your phone. Well, I didn’t and lo and behold I was called by Carine at 1 a.m.!

Trust me; she’s one of the few people who can get away with that stunt. She was at Papyrus Lounge (I can’t figure out peoples fascination with that place but that’s for another article) and even better, she was with the entire crew. Who was I not to get there by all means, fair and foul?

Have you ever tried to get a moto at 1.30 a.m.? It’s not easy I’ll have you know. I waited and waited and waited. I almost gave up but the gods were smiling down on me and I finally got one.

Still with a sandy feeling in my eyes but ready to party I got there. I grabbed a bottle of water and joined the ‘Hot Chicks Convection’ that Carine had convened. I’d barely sat down when, as will happen, the girls decided to go dancing.

"Aha,” I thought, "that’s my signal to go home…I’ll be damned if I spend five thousand going to that infamous B-Club.” But trust those girls to send me a curve ball. They decided to go to Orion; if you’ve never heard of it, it’s at One Love.

I was skeptical…that is, until the bouncer on the door told us that entrance was one thousand francs. Now that is what I’m talking about! Nice and cheap! The dance-floor was empty but that was just perfect.

We got the DJ to play whatever we wished and we danced until 5a.m. My knees creaked but I have no regrets… I can’t wait for her to come back.
