The education portfolio is always a challenging one, given the priorities on the table. I know Rwanda is ambitiously expanding early grade learning as well as primary education in the spirit of the nine year basic education.

Of course there have been challenges of quality given the adoption of English as the only language of instruction and the curriculum reforms.

The new minister for education and the state ministers have a tough choice to make in terms of accelerating progress in Early Childhood Development, primary education and expansion of secondary education as well as technical and vocational education and the long-term focus on higher education.

What is the strategic priority for Rwanda, now is overriding question for Minister Silas Lwakabamba and co. which they urgently need to answer going forward.
