Ntambara was spot on, mind set change is what we need

Editor,

REFER TO Paul Ntambara’s article, "We need mindset change towards mass sports” (The New Times, August 2). This is an interesting observation by Ntambara.

I have been to China and their love for physical fitness is epic. I have seen old men and women working out in Ritan Park and designated locations by the road side.

As you move around town you can just decide to stretch for a few minutes using simple public equipment by the road side. It’s the kind of equipment that can even be made locally by our vocational training students locally.

As you rightly point out, what we need in Rwanda is the mindset change. When you decide to walk home here in Rwanda, the talk next day will be on how broke you are to the extent that you can no longer afford transport fare.

Again remaining fit doesn’t require paying a lot on money in the gyms; you can work out in the comfort of your living room. It is all in the mind!

Thank you for raising this issue—I hope it gets people thinking. And again, learn as much as you can while still in China.
