The Middle East deadlock

Editor,

Please allow me to react to Dominique Moisi’s article, "The Trauma of France’s Jews” (The New Times, July 31). In Germany we have got similar debate. Many manifestations against the Israeli bombardments in Gaza degenerated into anti-Semitic events with cruel slogans against Jewish minorities.

There is an amalgam of Arabic children of migrants and German far right elements which strike a heavy blow against our first post-war principle to recognise Israel’s right to exist.

I totally comply with this principle, but let me put a simple question: Can you please explain me, dear Israelis, why your government built up a wall around your country by giving Jewish settlers the possibility to live outside this wall and denying Palestinians the same opportunity? Sorry but I do not understand this logic at all because it offends the principle that everybody enjoys the same rights with no distinction of race, religion or colour.
