Ghana women vice-captain Linda Eshun is confident that Rwanda national women's football team has the potential needed to perform well in Africa despite currently going through a poor run of results.

Eshun was part of the Black Queens who inflicted a 7-0 humiliation on Rwanda women during Wednesday’s 2024 WAFCON qualifiers first leg game held at Kigali Pele Stadium.

The centre back, who plies her trade at Icelandic topflight side Reykjavikur, believes that Rwanda is not a bad side and that the ladies can leave the result behind and instead learn from it to improve as soon as they can.

"Women&039;s football is like that, Ghana and others all passed through this stage so they (Rwanda) shouldn't worry," Eshun told Times Sport in a post-match interview.

"As beginners, this performance is commendable, I think women&039;s football in Rwanda and their national team as a whole will grow. It won't take long for that to happen."

The experienced defender further said that, once Rwanda starts getting more professional players in Europe, America and the big Women's football countries in Africa, the game will improve.

"I think, if more of their players get the chance to play professional football out of the country things will turn positive," she said.

Ghana Women welcome Rwanda Women in a second leg match that will take place on September 26 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
