Amavubi striker Dady Birori converted a late penalty in extra time to help DR Congo’s AS Vita register a 2-1 win over Sudanese giants Al-Hilal in a Caf Champions’ League Group A match played at the Kinshasa Stadium on Sunday.

The win pushed AS Vita to top of the log with seven points, tied with Mazembe. Mazembe played a goalless draw against Zamalek to drop from first to second position.

Mohamed Bashir gave the visitors an early 18th minute lead before the hosts fought back strongly after the recess to score the two goals.

Guy Lusadisu Bisisila made it 1-1 after 82 minutes, before Birori who is commonly referred to as Tady Etekiama in Congo converted a penalty seven minutes into added time.

The two sides had settled for a 1-all draw in their earlier meeting in Khartoum last month.

AS Vita, who finished second in the DR Congo League behind TP Mazembe, also beat five-time African Champions Zamalek 2-1 in the early matches of the Group in the same stadium.

Birori who has three goals in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers is expected in Kigali mid this week to boost Amavubi who are gearing up for the August 2 return leg against Congo Brazzaville. The match will be held at Kigali Regional Stadium.

Zamalek stay home for a second straight game on August 9 to host leaders Vita while Mazembe await third placed Al Hilal on the same date.
