MTN Rwanda on Friday contributed Rwf5m to construct housing units in Nyagatare District for over 1,000 Rwandans evicted from Tanzania last year.

"This contribution is in line with the government’s policy towards shelter implementation and supporting the integration of internally displaced persons and returnees,” the Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, Annie Bilenge, said.

Thousands of Rwandan refugees expelled from Tanzania have been resettled and the relief efforts implemented have so far shown the importance of launching early interventions to ensure resettlement.

"It is the responsibility of every individual to improve the communities in which they live through action. We want to help families restart a livelihood, which would eventually help them regain control of their lives,” Bilenge continued.

In the spirit of helping to change the communities, MTN participated in their very own employee volunteer programme, ‘21 Days of Y’ello Care’ from June 1 to 21.

The recently concluded Y’ello care initiative saw MTN, in partnership with the Rwanda Education Board, equip schools with desks, books and playground equipment for childhood development, provide ICT training to over 500 students and 200 teachers in high schools, as well as train university students across the country in  Cloud Computing and Virtualisation across the country.
