Inyange Girls Science School emerged the overall winners of the annual Chinese cultural competition which came to a climax at the Chinese Embassy in Kigali on Thursday Inyange was represented by four students who walked away with a DVD player each.

Indatwa n’Inkesha School came in second position and each of their representatives got a mobile phone. Gatsibo Community Model came third and the school representatives in the competition too got phones while Confucius Institution of University of Rwanda came in last, and the school representatives walked away with a schoolbag each.

The students competed in Chinese cultural dance, recited poems in Chinese language, sang Chinese songs and exhibited wonderful skills in Karate. 

The dancers looked flexible while making unique Chinese culture strokes that excited people in attendance.

Each school was fighting to make it to the top using as much energy as possible to impress the crowd. After two hours of performing; there was a quiz related to Chinese history and the relationship between Rwanda and China.

Jeannette Umutoniwase, a student from Inyange Girls Science School said it is good for students to learn different cultures and history.

"This helps to us learn about different cultures and languages. China is a big country with many opportunities, so one day I might find myself there and what I learnt in the competition might come in handy,” she said.

The competitions started early this year with various schools participating but the selection for the top four schools was made early July. Each school had four representatives and twenty supporters.
