Editor,

I sincerely hope that the government takes measures to include legislation that will protect sports and tourism cyclists, a growing sector in Rwanda.

As a professional bicycle tourism guide, I spend a lot of my time protecting my cycling clients from inconsiderate driving especially (and in order) by taxi-motos, bus services, car drivers, 4x4 drivers and truck drivers. It seems to me that the biggest problem is a general lack of respect for others, especially from the wealthier road users.

The second problem is a lack of basic safety training for road users. For example, by leaving a car-door’s width of space whilst overtaking would drastically reduce the number of accidents and general road stress between users.
