RAYON SPORTS FC have released long-serving midfielder Djamal Mwiseneza after failing to agree on terms of a new contract.

Mwiseneza, 28, was handed an official release letter on Tuesday afternoon after the Rwanda international set high demands before contract renewal, according to the club president Théogène Ntampaka.

"It is true Mwiseneza has been released and he is free to go after he opted not to renew his contract with us. He was making high demands that we could not meet. We are looking for his replacement,” Ntampaka confirmed to Times Sport on Thursday.

According to the official, Mwiseneza was being offered Rwf8 million and Rwf400,000 monthly salary by 2013 league champions to renew his contract by two years but he turned down the offer and demanded Rwf10 million to stay.

Mwiseneza was one of the two remaining longest serving players at the seven-time league champions along with former captain Aphrodis ‘Kanombe’ Hategekimana, who still has one year remaining on his contract.

Mwiseneza has been at Rayon his entire career. He featured in the club’s junior team for two years (2005, 2006) before earning promotion to senior team in 2007.

According to reliable sources, Mwiseneza has held talks with Kenyan side Sofapaka as well as reigning Rwandan champions APR FC for a possible move, which is why he was reluctant to renew his contract with the Blues.
