LAST YEAR’S Gisembe memorial tourney winners, league and play-offs runners-up Ubumwe Basketball Club are one victory away from winning this year’s women’s league.

Ubumwe BBC are set to be crowned 2014 champions if they beat Rwanda Allied Peace for Progress (RAPP) on Saturday at College of Science and Technology courts at 9am in the last league match of the season.

Ubumwe are confident on accomplishing the task in a bid to win the title.

"We are glad for having reached this far. We are optimistic this very last match will hand us the title. It’s a do or die clash for us,” Ubumwe head coach Jacques Bahige told Saturday Sport yesterday.

Should Ubumwe win the tie, they will claim the title by score average rule at APR’s expense. They will both be having 15 points but APR beat Ubumwe in the first-leg league match by a six-point gap while Ubumwe won the return-leg encounter by an eight-point margin.

In men’s league, Gisenyi host strugglers 30-Plus in Rubavu today morning. Gisenyi will also host IPRC-Kicukiro on Sunday at College of Science and Technology courts.

In another match, Rusizi and UGB who are fighting for a slot in the play-offs round will face-off in Rusizi tomorrow.

The league is set to officially climax on July 26 when already crowned champions Espoir will host Rusizi Basketball Club at Amahoro indoor stadium.
