Rwanda film festival ends with elegant display of Chinese culture

ONE of the major highlights at the 10th annual Rwanda film festival was the cocktail dinner which was graced by Shen Yongxiang, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Rwanda.  As the guest country of this year’s film festival, China showcased highlights of its rich history and diverse culture through ten films that showed at the Cinema throughout the festival.

ONE of the major highlights at the 10th annual Rwanda film festival was the cocktail dinner which was graced by Shen Yongxiang, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Rwanda. 

As the guest country of this year’s film festival, China showcased highlights of its rich history and diverse culture through ten films that showed at the Cinema throughout the festival. 

Guests were treated to a sumptuous array of Chinese cuisines as Chinese traditional music played in the background which was decorated using Chinese decor. 

The red carpet event attracted renowned script writers and film producers from around East Africa and big shots in the Rwanda film industry also graced the occasion.

Ambassador Yongxiang urged Rwandans to support the local film industry if it is to flourish citing the example of China where government has supported the industry since its inception in 1905.

The ambassador gave a chronology of the evolution of the China film industry and what the people of Rwanda can learn from them to grow the local film industry. 

The event ended with the screening of The grandmaster a film by Wong Kar-wai at the Cinema.

The event was organised by Rwanda Cinema centre and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Rwanda at Century Cinema, Kigali City Tower.
