Heartwarming and inspiring… Mr Nkunda’s story shows that there’s a wonderful potential, buried inside everyone. It’s a telling tale to all youth, that regardless of their circumstances — historical, emotional, and socio-economic — the beauty of life is that every passing day offers the possibility of extraordinary, yet unsuspected change.

After all he had been through, Mr Nkunda wouldn’t have dreamed that his destiny could be so full of bright promises. But it only took one little twist of life — the meeting of a compassionate woman, Anne Heyman — and the future became his to mould. He could finally move towards becoming who he was meant to be, as opposed to being defined by his life’s painful circumstances.

That is a powerful lesson for all youth; believe in yourself and life. Never let your circumstances stifle your hopes and dreams. Move forward and seize every opportunity, no matter what it looks like at first glance: the end result might well surpass your expectations.

And loudest cheers for this young man; his loved ones up there must surely be beaming with pride.
