FORMER LEAGUE Champions Rayon Sports are on the verge of signing Burundian attacking midfielder Pierrot Kwizera from Cote d’Ivoire’s premier league club Afad Jekano.

According to club president Theogene Ntampaka, Kwizera is expected in Kigali on Sunday this week to put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Ntampaka said over the weekend, "We have held initial talks with the player and are expecting to officially conclude the transfer deal so he can sign a long-term contract with Rayon Sports.”

"He is a good player whose services we believe will prove vital as far as Rayon Sports’ intentions to win silverware next season are concerned,” added Ntampaka.

Kwizera is being considered as a possible replacement for Burundian Cedric Amissi who has since joined Mozambique’s premier league side Clube do Chibuto.

The Nyanza-based club, expected to start pre-season training this week, have only so far signed former AS Kigali defender James Tubane on a two-year contract.

The blues have also appointed Belgian coach Jean Francois Losciuto and immediately tasked him to win them trophies, including next month’s Cecafa Kagame Club championship.

Rayon Sports are in Group A of the Cecafa Kagame Cup championship alongside five-time Kagame Cup winners Young Africans of Tanzania, Coffee [Ethiopia], Atlbara [South Sudan] and KMKM [Zanzibar].
