ARJ elects new committee

Rwandan journalists yesterday elected a new executive committee for their association – (ARJ). The Executive Committee comprised five members.

Rwandan journalists yesterday elected a new executive committee for their association – (ARJ). The Executive Committee comprised five members. Collin Haba, president; Aldo Havugimana, 1st vice president; Marie Louise Uwizeyimana, second vice president; Edmund Kagire, secretary general and Charles Kwizera, treasurer.  

Aldo Havugimana, the head of Radio Rwanda, was one of the three new faces in the executive committee when he was elected 1st vice president. Marie Louise Uwizeyimana, owner of Intego Newspaper landed second vice president position.

Edmund Kagire, a journalist of The EastAfrican and Charles Kwizera, of Kigali Today were elected secretary general and treasurer respectively.

The latter also sailed through unopposed for a second term. .

Apart from the executive committee, members elected three Advisors and three Auditors 

"With the previous achievements, we now have a foundation. And I believe, thanks to your support we will represent you much better, "promised Haba to the general assembly.

Accountability

Over ARJ members in attendance expressed their satisfaction with the outgoing leadership for being accountable for the last two years.

They appreciated the management of the association’s finances which have improved tremendously compared to previous years.

"I am one of the founder members, but I have never seen such accountability. In the past, there was no report on the expenditures, and the association’s income was quite often misused,” said Sehene Ruvugiro, a correspondent of the Arusha based Fondation Hirondelle.
