What is a parent’s job? Is it to buy food and pay school fees for the little ones? Or is it cooking and washing for the children? Well, educationists argue that although all the above is correct, it is not enough. It is for instance good to take your child to school but more fulfilling to see your child successfully complete his studies and go on to be a respectable person in society. And this is only possible if you take more interest in your child’s academic life. 

As Education Times established in it’s research this week, children whose parents are actively involved in helping them with their homework tend to do better overall in school. They tend to attain higher grades than students whose parents take no interest in their homework, especially as they go to higher classes. And the reason is simply because the one-on-one tutoring caters for an individual child’s learning speed and ability to grasp concepts. Besides, it is a perfect opportunity for the two (child and parent) to bond. Teachers, however, advise parents to desist from doing homework for their children, but rather just guide them.

Therefore, rather than rush to the nearest bar after dropping your child at home in the evening, spare an extra hour or two to watch over your child doing his homework. Even if you have no knowledge about the subject, make sure all the work has been done before your child goes to bed. This way you will be teaching your child to become a responsible citizen whom you will forever be proud of.
