APR women basketball club were crowned 2022/23 women’s basketball league champions after Friday night’s 62-61 Game 5 win over Rwanda Energy Group (REG) at BK Arena saw them win the best of seven finals series 4-1.

APR came into Game 5 leading the finals series 3-1 and knowing that a victory would see them dethrone REG, who were defending champions, to get the party for glory go on at the military side whose men’s team also won the championship last week to bring their 14-year title jinx to an end.

Even without suspended coach Charles Mbazumutima on the touchline, the team maintained their winning spirit that saw them fight back from a seven-point deficit at the break to win the game by just a point.

Point guard Odile Tetero put in yet another sensational performance, scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds, four assists and three steals to power APR past REG.

Tetero has been at the top of her game and her championship winning performance earned her a Playoffs’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) prize.

With the championship, APR will represent Rwanda at the 2023 Africa Zone Five Club Championship scheduled between October and November in Kigali.
