APR and rivals Police are favourites to qualify to the final of the 2014 Peace Cup following their comfortable wins in yesterday’s semi final first leg ties.

League champions APR beat nine-man SC Kiyovu 3-1 at Kigali Regional Stadium, while Police overcame second division side Sec Academy 4-2 at Mumena stadium.

The military side went ahead through striker Michel Ndahinduka in the 8th minute; substitute Papy Sibomana doubled the lead in the 62nd minute before Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza added the third in 72nd minute.

Ghad Niyonshuti netted a consolation goal for Kiyovu with a dazzling free kick in 69th minute before Hussein Habimana and Mukamba Musombwa were sent off for reckless fouls against Sibomana and Albert Ngabo respectively.

APR also had defender Emery Bayisenge sent off for two bookable offences, while skipper Ismail Nshutiyamagara too will miss the second leg following bookings in two successive games.

Bayisenge will have himself to blame for the foul on Musa Tsova, which resulted into a second bookable offense.

At Mumena, Sam Ssimbwa’s outfit scored four goals in the first half courtesy of a hat-trick from striker Jerome Sina and defender Amani Uwilingiyimana netted the fourth.

Danny Usengimana and Isaac Muganza scored consolation goals for the second division club which could prove vital in second leg.

The second leg is scheduled for June 27, while the final is slated for July 4, when the country celebrates Liberation Day.
