Editor,

THIS IS in reference to the article, "Nkurunziza found solution to cheaper cooking in India” (Sunday Times, June 8).

The Government of Rwanda through youth representatives should encourage citizens to go abroad and acquire more skills. But whenever the youth representatives go for meetings in different countries around the world, they should make it their top priority to return with something that will facilitate the youth back home to acquire more skills.

For instance, we know that some Rwandans are traditionally potters. Those men and women can learn a lot from China. We import cups, plates and many pottery products from China while we have people who are very fond of this skill. What they need is guidance to refine their products and grow to the industrial level.

We should learn from the example of Mr. Nkurunziza. He said that he first of all got in touch with some people in India before he took the second step to go there in person. Once there, his eyes were opened and he grabbed the opportunity with open hands.

What Africa needs are revolutionary ideas to technologically refine what we already have. This can be achieved if youth representatives dream of it in everything they do.

If we want to learn from someone, we should begin with Asians because the West is relatively more advanced. We don’t have to skip rungs of the ladder. China and India are the great teachers that we have for the moment.

Once we make it a priority to import new skills every year, I bet no African country will stand in Rwanda’s way in the future.

IT’S GREAT to introduce an energy saving stove which is affordable in the country. At long last the average Rwandan can cook smartly and cost effectively.

FOR HEAVEN’S sake, how can you end this great revelation without telling us how to get access to this stove? I want to acquire one but I have no idea where to find it. The information is useless as it is.

KUDOS TO Nkurunziza for this innovation. We save the environment and money. How can people find you to buy this stove? How much does it cost? Why can’t you manufacture it locally?
