EAST AFRICA might miss out on the annual singing competition Tusker Project Fame (TPF) this year as management focuses on a new reality show, Tusker Twende Kazi.

This was revealed by the Tusker Project Fame Gold sponsors, East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

The company decided to focus on its just concluded new reality show, Tusker Twende Kazi where celebrities are paired and given tasks around the world to deliver a bottle of Tusker. It’s however rumoured that the organisers decided to try out a new competition after finding out that Tusker Project Fame winners weren’t making it to the top in music. TPF aims at boosting music in East Africa through promoting and funding talented singers. The previous winners of the competition include; Valerie Kimani (Kenya), Ester Mugizi (Uganda), Alpha Rwirangira, a double winner from (Rwanda), Hillary Davis Ntare (Uganda), Ruth Matete (Kenya) and one Hope from Burundi.

However, Ian Mbugua, one of the judges on the previous shows, dismissed the allegations as rumours.

"There has been no official word regarding Tusker Project Fame from EABL. It’s just speculation for now; it will obviously have an impact on crew suppliers and others. The audience already feels the ‘loss’. Many have come to expect it.

Let’s hope we hear from EABL soon,” Mbugua said.

Rwanda’s Alpha Rwirangira won the competition twice and is the only selling artiste from the Tusker Project Fame Academy. The music talent show is judged by renowned house hold names in East Africa’s music industry like Kenya’s Ian Mbugua, and Ugandan songstress Juliana Kanyomozi.
