RWANDAN representatives Etincelles have been knocked out of the Cecafa Nile Basin Cup with a game to spare after losing their second game of the tournament to Burundi’s Academie Tchite on Monday.

An own goal from Prince Nkusi was enough to hand maximum points to Burundi’s Academie Tchite. Coach Abdu Bizimana’s side has now lost two matches. They lost the opening game 2-0 against Kenya’s AFC Leopards on Saturday.

They will need a miracle to register a win over Tanzania’s Mbeya City and hope to qualify if they can only come among the best losers which will be a bit difficult considering the three goals they have conceded so far.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards are through to the quarterfinals after overcoming Tanzania’s Mbeya City 2-1 in their second Group B match in Khartoum, Sudan.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Musa Mudde gave Ingwe the lead in the 30th minute before speedy winger Paul Were doubled the advantage five minutes later after rounding off Mbeya’s defence before Beus Kaseke pulled one back in added time.

Leopards are top of the Pool on six points and face Burundi’s Academie for their last preliminary round match on Wednesday.
