EASTERN PROVINCE giants Sunrise FC lifted their maiden football title after beating Isonga to win the 2014 Second Division league Cup yesterday at Stade de Kigali. 

Djabir Irankunda and Jean d’amour Bonane netted the winning goals for Sunrise before Senzira Manyinsura snatched a consolation for Yves Rwasamanzi’s outfit. 

Both Sunrise and Isonga have since been promoted to the topflight football division.

Sunrise earned the promotion after edging neighbours Bugesera 3-1, on aggregate, while Isonga sealed their return to the top National Football League after beating Sec Academy 2-1, on aggregate, during the semi finals early this month.  The duo will fill the void left behind by relegated sides AS Muhanga and Esperance.
