GASABO DISTRICT take on their counterparts Nyarugenge in the hunt for honours in the on-going 2014 Umurenge Kagame Cup which has reached the district level.

The match will be played this afternoon at Ferwafa turf.

Gasabo district qualified to this stage after their representatives Remera emerged victors in both men and women categories at the sector level finals.

In the women category, Remera sector beat Nduba Sector (1-0) while their male counterparts defeated Jabana sector 1-0 respectively to secure slots to represent Gasabo at the district level.

Willy Ndizeye, the Mayor of Gasabo district said that the tournament named after President Paul Kagame links the public and their leaders through interaction and sharing of ideas on different government programmes through sports.

"We promise to support Gasabo district especially Remera sector football club to ensure that they go ahead and win the Umurenge Kagame Cup,” added Ndizeye. The Umurenge Kagame Cup is a tournament that brings together all districts in the country to compete in football for both men and women.

The annual tournament is aimed at creating awareness of good governance in the country and bringing leadership closer to the people through finding suitable solutions to their social problems.
