Bakunzi promotes culture through art

LOCAL ARTISTE, Jean Bosco Bakunzi held a solo art exhibition at Uburanga Arts Studio in Kimihurura on Saturday. 

At the exhibition, a variety of Bakunzi’s art pieces were displayed. The exhibition that started at 6:00pm attracted a cross section of art lovers. Bakunzi said that the annual exhibition aims at promoting Rwandan culture.

"I want to inform people, especially the youth, that through our talent, we can easily promote our culture,” Bakunzi said. He noted that the exhibition was an opportunity for him to benefit from his creations and also a mechanism through which he can improve his works.

Bakunzi said that although there is still a lot that needs to be done in promoting art, he is optimistic that things will get better.

"It’s through feedback that we can work better, to the expectations of our customers,” he said.

Among the people who attended, Kate who preferred not to give her last name said the pieces were not only good but also inspiring. 

"It’s my first time to attend an exhibition of this kind and I have noticed that the art displayed is exceptionally good, especially the local pieces,” she said. 

Born in Kigali in 1985, Bakunzi started his art journey in 2005. Throughout his career, he has been motivated by the belief that art has the power to heal people mentally and emotionally. He owns Uburanga Arts Studio which he started in 2010. 

Uburanga which means beauty is home to a number of international art pieces.
