As one of the leading peace building organizations in the world through responding and involving the local population in finding solutions to effects of conflicts within countries, International Alert started its operation far back in 1986 in three pioneer countries but has since expanded to over 25 countries including Rwanda.

In Rwanda, the organization operates in eight Sectors of three districts; Gatumba and Nyange in Ngororero district, Kinyinya and Kimironko in Gasabo district as well as Kigembe, Muganza, Save and Mukindo Sector in Gisagara district, Southern Province.

Among other initiatives, International Alert Rwanda Chapter embarked on fighting the effects of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The organization does this through its unity and reconciliation drive that enables perpetrators of the genocide reunite with survivors.
