RWANDA’S professional chess players Allain Niyibizi and Maxence Murara had a poor outing as they staged dismal performances in the East Africa Chess Open held in Kenya last week.
Niyibizi who returned 3 points out of 7, finished 29 while his colleague Murara who is rated at 1730, won two games drew two and lost the rest to finish the tournament with 3 points out of 7 and ranked 31st out of the 42 participants from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa.
Remera Chess player Niyibizi told Times Sport yesterday, "‘I last took part in competitive tournaments in 2010 while in Russia and I believe I tried my best. I am hopeful to do better in the upcoming tournaments.”
Uganda’s Arthur Ssegwanyi was the overall winner with 6.5 points out of 7 alongside fellow country mates international Master (IM) Elijah Emojong and Harold Wanyama who scored 6 and 5.5 points respectively.
