Firstly, the two gadgets are made by different companies. Sony unveiled Play Station (PS1 to PS3), while Microsoft Corporation unleashed its first foray video gaming console in the Xbox.

It’s all in the box
Both the Xbox and the PS feature the requisite graphics and audio subsystems needed to play today’s incredibly realistic action games as well as DVD movies.

Both systems come with a built-in DVD drive for running gaming and movie DVDs and play standard music CDs.

The Xbox requires an additional DVD Playback to watch movies, but allowing you to use your own music to customise a game’s soundtrack is a nice touch.

The Xbox has four controller ports, and comes with a hard drive to store saved games and user profiles. The drive also helps games to load faster, and allows you to store music, which can be used to customize your gaming experience.

Having an extra memory cards are optional.
The PS saves internally and has two slots for memory cards for more storage.

It also has two controller ports, but with a chance of adding more controllers.

The Xbox has a built in internet connectivity while the PS requires a network adapter obtain internet connectivity.

The Xbox and the PS both support Dolby Digital surround sound, making them ideal for hooking up to a home theater system if not ordinary speakers.

Although both the Xbox and the PS2 come with one game controller, each accepts additional devices. There are several third-party game controllers for the Xbox, like the free-styler board for surfing, skateboarding.

For the PS, there are game controllers with a force feedback driving wheel that vibrates and shudders as you navigate around the track and a wireless controller.

There’s even an air-cooled controller, which keeps your hands cool while doing battle against your friends.

According to each gaming system, PS has the edge when it comes to sheer number of game titles, and it has the benefit of being backward compatible with and extensive library of games, with more on the way.

Xbox is new but by some accounts has a slight edge when it comes to graphics.

Overall, both consoles offer great video and sound quality, which is all-important in the gaming world.

But considering latest model by both makers; Sony and Microsoft, the PS3 appears to have a technological edge over the Xbox 360.

The PS3 has high DVD
colour resolution compatibility in Blu-ray. In the overall comparison, the PS wins the game.
