BARELY a month after she was crowned Miss Rwanda 2014, Colombe Akiwacu has bowed out. The born-again beauty queen says she has failed to balance the demands of Miss Rwanda with her staunch religious commitments.

Speaking to The New Times, Akiwacu said that after closely scrutinising the contract she signed immediately after her crowning, she has made up her mind to return the crown and the car.

"I will not trade my Christian values for immorality. I don’t believe in wearing bikinis in public. I have since written to the organisers cancelling my contract. I have also returned the car that had been given to me. I am currently working on paying back the money that had been given to me and other gifts,” said the 19-year-old beauty queen.

Akiwacu becomes the first Miss Rwanda to resign in the history of Rwanda’s beauty pageants. Efforts to get a comment from the organisers of Miss Rwanda were futile as our repeated phone calls were not answered or returned.

However, Miss Rwanda also wished all her fans and Rwandans a Happy Fools Day!
