University of Rwanda- College of Arts and Social Sciences (formerly NUR) are targeting to finish in the top four of this year’s national basketball league despite losing three of the four matches played so far. 

The Huye-based team, playing at their home court, lost 82-52 to reigning champions Espoir on Saturday and 78-55 to APR on Sunday respectively. 

Espoir’s Oliver Shyaka scored the game high of 26 points with his teammates Christian Barutwanayo and Captain Artside Mugabe adding 14 points. NUR’s Eric Shema led his club’s scoring sheet with 11 points.

In other games, former champions APR won 88-41 against College of Education (formerly KIE) on Saturday, while two-time reigning champions Espoir snatched a narrow victory of 71-65 over hosts Rusuzi yesterday.

 "We were dominated in both matches over the weekend by the two best teams. Espoir and APR are two solid teams in the league, but we have not given up our initial target of the season, finishing in the top four,” NUR’s coach Charles Mushumba told Times Sport on Sunday.

He also said that his hopes are based on the fact that he will host all but one (against Espoir) league’s second round matches, so he intends to collect more points in the second round.

In women’s league on Sunday, 7-time league winners APR beat closest archrivals Ubumwe basketball club 65-59, while RAPP easily won 61-31 against Huye-based College of Arts and Social sciences.
