APR beat Etincelles to maintain lead

Thirteen–time Turbo King Football League champions, APR, yesterday beat Etincelles 1-0 during a match played at Stade de Kigali, Nyamirambo.

Rwandan international midfielder, Jean Baptist Mugiraneza ‘Miggi,’ scored the lone goal during 66th minute from well-taken corner by winger Patrick Sibomana. The win keeps APR on top of the league table with 49 points followed by defending champions, Rayon Sports with 46 points.

Rayon continued to exert pressure on APR after thrashing Mukura 3-1 at Muhanga. The two giants meet next Sunday.

APR dominated the Rubavu-based team in first half of the game, but Charles Tibingana Mwesigye, Michael Ndahinduka and Isaiah Songa failed to beat Etincelles’s goalie, Freddy Ilunga Mukadi.

Etincelles had two open chances to score through Jean Bosco Harorimana who failed to beat APR’s goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera.

Elsewhere, Rayon Sports beat Mukura Victory Sports 3-1, thanks to midfielder Leon Uwambajimana and strikers Meddie Kagere and Cedric Amiss who scored the first, second and third respectively. Claude Nahimana scored the consolation goal for Mukura.

In Gicumbi, Gicumbi FC managed to beat Musanze 2-1 to climb to 17 points ahead of Esperance and Amagaju, who are at bottom with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Amagaju will face Marines, also with 14 points, today at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu while Kiyovu will host Esperance at Mumena Stadium in Nyamirambo.

The other matches will be between AS Kigali and Police at Stade de Kigali while Espoir will host AS Muhanga at Rusizi.
