RWANDA national women football team will play against Zambia in a friendly match as the two teams prepare for the final qualification round of the 2014 African Women Championships scheduled for October 11-24 in Namibia.

The friendly match will be played early in  May as Grace Nyinawumuntu’s She-Amavubi prepare to face Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the final qualification round at the end of May.

"Our team is promising and it’s our responsibility to prepare the players in every way possible. We believe a friendly match against a superior team like Zambia would help them to prepare for the tricky match against Nigeria, which is the most successful team in the history of the competition,”  Ferwafa vice president Vedaste Kayiranga, who also doubles as the federation’s spokesperson, told Times Sport yesterday.

She-Amavubi sealed their place in the final round after coming out unscathed in the first round of the qualifiers against Kenya. They won the first leg in Kigali 1-0 before losing the second leg 2-1 in Nairobi but went through on the away goal rule.

Rwanda will host the Super Falcons in the first leg set to be played in Kigali on May 24, while the second leg will be played in Lagos on June 7.

Zambia beat Tanzania to set up a final round clash against neighbours Zimbabwe, who also ousted Botswana in the earlier round.

Seven teams from the qualifiers will join hosts Namibia for the final tournament from 11-24 October, which is also a qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
