Rwanda sends five to Africa Junior Tennis Championships

FIVE Rwandan tennis players will face some of the continent’s best when the Africa Junior Tennis Championships get underway today at the Nairobi and Public Service Clubs.

The five players named by the Rwanda Tennis Federation technical director Fidel Bayama on Tuesday include; Ernest Habiyambere, Fabrice Tuyishime, Brian Ndahiro, Oliva Tuyisenge and Chantal Mutuyimana. Jean Pierre Nshimiyimana is the team coach.

The five youngsters got tickets for the continental tournament after impressing in the ITF/CAT East African Junior Championship held in Tanzania in January where Rwanda finished in fourth place out of six countries.

The tournament begun yesterday and will end on 17th while the main Africa Junior Championships will run from March 18 to 23.

The event will involve players in the both boys’ and girls’ categories of 16 years & under as well as 14 years & under. A total of 150 players representing over 30 countries will participate in this year’s event.

Countries expected to take part include; Rwanda, Uganda, Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Lesotho, Morocco, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and hosts Kenya among others.
