TELUGU AND CHALLENGERS Cricket Clubs will meet this weekend to determine the champions of the 2014 VR NAIDU RCA T20 tournament.  The two qualified for the finals after registering victories in the semi finals last weekend.

Telugu booked a place in the finals courtesy of man of match performance from Ajay Saini who scored 42 runs and 3 wickets against Kerala Hunters CC who only managed 5 wickets.

"We are so happy with our performance that has earned us a place in the final for the second time in a row,” Telugu skipper Shiva Samba said.

Victory CC’s hope of playing in the final were dashed by Challengers CC after losing by 13 runs in the second semi final.

After winning the toss, Challengers set 168/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Subhasis Samal’s 62 off 35 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes was the highlight of their batting.

Needing about 9 runs an over, the openers Ed Pearson (39) and Niyomugabo Eric (68 not out) started with a positive approach and put on first wicket stand of 61 runs.

However Andre Kayitera’s duck kept the run rate dropping as other batsmen fell cheaply as well.

Feroz Shaik’s brilliant bowling performance earned him 3 wickets that damaged Victory’s batting attack.

In the women’s category, Queens of Victory CC’s hopes of playing the final were smashed after losing to Charity CC by 1 wicket.

Young and talented Nadia Mugwaneza won the game with only one wicket to spare.

Mugwaneza said, "It was really tough because we failed to build partnerships, this created a lot of pressure but we won the game.”

The Queen of Victory captain Diane Bimenyimana said, "We have been unlucky this time, but we will try to improve on our mistakes in the next tournament.
